We are excited to be producing our third show at the Usher Hall. Acappella To The MAX! will deliver exactly that as we sing and dance our way through a packed programme of jazz, swing, country, classic barbershop and contemporary pop. This year our show will include feature performances from the excellent dancers of the Live It Dance Studio who will be joining us on stage. Bringing it all together on the night will be our inspirational director, David Sangster. Tickets on sale now from the Usher Hall.

Acappella to the Max! - FVC Show 3.10.2015 Usher Hall

29 May 2013

The previous biennial Forth Valley Chorus Show took place on 28 September 2013 (in autumn 2014 the Chorus was competing at International in Baltimore,USA).  Here are some highlights from A Cappella Live!

The chorus enjoyed possibly our best ever gig at the Usher Hall on 28 September! Our director, David and our music team had created a really challenging and fun-filled programme and we worked hard to deliver it with style!

We came on stage to a fabulous Bach organ piece, marched to the very front of the stage and sang our first song from there, before launching into one of the musical interludes written especially by David for the occasion. We sang songs from every decade from the 30s to the present day so there really was something for all the family!

A special mention has to go to our lighting guru, John Weitzen, whose creative skills really added a special touch to the show.

We were joined onstage by two of our fabulous quartets. Current UK medallists Mac4 gave a great rendition of "sweet dreams are made of this", as well as one of their medal-winning songs, and the Swingettes sang a gorgeous arrangement (by David) of Adele's "Someone like you". For us, the best thing about the gig was the wonderful reaction from the 1,500-strong audience. We are blessed to have such supportive friends and family and it was a pleasure and a privilege to put on a great show for them. We already can't wait for our next Usher Hall gig!

A message from one of the people in the audience:

"Acappella Live!, the flagship show and fundraising evening for the multi award-winning Forth Valley Chorus, took place in the splendid setting of Edinburgh's Usher Hall on Saturday evening. It proved to be a triumphant celebration of high quality singing: exhilarating, uplifting, humorous and moving - sometimes all during the same song.

This was a performance I was determined to witness, despite living over 200 miles away in Yorkshire. So my wife and I travelled to Edinburgh especially to see the show and to support our dear friend Sarah Davis, a long-standing member of this Edinburgh-based barbershop chorus of a hundred ladies.

Director David Sangster must be extremely proud of the high standards reached by the chorus, no doubt achieved through hundreds of hours of practice and dedication. David's own musicality and showmanship helped to light up this special evening, with many of his own exquisite arrangements and even a self-penned song featuring in the varied programme.

We are often told of the many health benefits of singing for those taking part. Judging from the evidence of Saturday night's magical performance, the Forth Valley Chorus should be recommended for anyone who needs a spring in their step and an infectious feeling of inner well-being! Congratulations to all involved in making this a truly memorable evening and good luck when you travel to the USA next year to represent Britain in the Sweet Adeline International Competition."
