Got Questions?

Here are a number of frequently-asked questions that we get:

How much personal time will it take?

We rehearse every Thursday throughout the year in Bristo Church between 7.30 and 10pm. We have a two week break at Christmas and a two week break in the summer. Every member is expected to attend each weekly rehearsal and to participate in performances given by the chorus. We also have occasional Saturday rehearsals/coaching sessions (2 - 3 per year).

As a guide we have 6 smaller performances each year and bi-annual major show.

As a competing chorus we take part in Sweet Adelines Region 31 Convention during a weekend each May. All choruses in Sweet Adelines in the UK are members of Region 31.

What is the cost?

A monthly fee of £25 is payable after acceptance into the chorus. The fee covers a payment to Sweet Adelines International, Sweet Adelines UK, music, costumes, cost of rehearsal room, directors fee etc.

As an active competing chorus you will be expected to make every effort to participate in Regional Convention. The hotel and travel costs are the responsibility of the individual member.

What is the audition procedure?

You will have to pass an audition to join Forth Valley Chorus. We set song(s) for learning and give you time to learn them before the audition and we give you lots of support and practice to prepare. We have music files to listen to the piece as well as the sheet music, but you will not be tested on sight-singing. Besides singing, we also look for performance potential - and again, we help by showing you what we mean by performance during our rehearsals.

How do I learn the songs?

We learn by a combination of listening and using sheet music. However, you do not have to be able to read music to learn - you can use either sheet music or listening techniques, or both. We do not use sheet music once we have learned the songs.
