About Forth Valley Chorus

Forth Valley Chorus (FVC) started in 1987 with 8 just members. In 2012, when we celebrated our 25th Anniversary, we had 100 members – including 3 founder members. Our numbers fluctuate a little - currently we are at 107 singers plus our director, David.

Our name was chosen to reflect our membership of women of all ages and backgrounds, from all over Central Scotland, Fife, Tayside and the Scottish Borders; but our membership now extends to ladies from all over the world.

Forth Valley Chorus is affiliated to  Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organisation of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Performance

The chorus delights in performance and entertainment, including corporate or event entertainment, fundraising for ourselves or other Charities, and at our biennial show, at Edinburgh's prestigious Usher Hall.

Forth Valley Chorus takes the advancement of singing and performance capabilities quite seriously; our commitment, enjoyment and enthusiasm are evident; and our welcoming friendship is renowned. One of our main goals and focus for 2014 was competing on the International stage in Baltimore, MD in November where we represented the UK in style and came 18th in the world.

Of course, as a fun group of 100 women, we are always interested in those important matters for every event - “what are we singing and wearing?”

Education

In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we receive coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.

Competition

Each May, Forth Valley Chorus participates in our Region's (UK & Netherlands) chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories can then travel to International Competition, which is held in autumn in the USA each year.

Forth Valley Chorus has won the Regional Competition 6 times, so far, most recently in May 2016.

Our Region is one of the highest achieving Regions worldwide and we look forward to the exciting challenge every time we compete.

Quartets & Small Groups

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets and small groups in addition to singing with the chorus. Forth Valley Chorus currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets and small groups, and we are very proud of them!
